Nestled in the remote village of Likir, our space is a way of getting attuned to the local life and their ways of living. The traditional photographic practices helps one to slow down as it becomes an interaction with the time and place
What does Parkhang mean?
'Par' in tibetan means to hand print something from a mould, curved wooden blocks or a photograph.
'Khang' means a house or a dwelling. Together we can call it as a print house.
About Us
Our studio is located in the remote village of Likir, around 60kms from Leh towards the western part of Ladakh. The space was formed to research on historical printing methods and traditional photographic practices. How we can we build alternative narratives by using the landscapes and surrounding elements from the region in the process of image making. We have been working with the locals from different villages to build an archive about the communities and their traditional practices.
